The Berg Project, located between the towns of Roosenekal and Dullstroom in South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province, is immediately south and along strike from Northam’s Booysendal Project. Four prospecting rights cover the Berg Project area which represents a PGM target associated with the Merensky and UG2 Reefs of the Bushveld Complex. As the rights are adjacent to one another and an overlap of prospecting activities in the prospecting works programme is anticipated, they are reported as a single project.
Exploration on this project is well advanced and currently focused on a UG2 mineral resource drilling programme, following completion of the first 13 reconnaissance boreholes. As at the end of February 2009, 18 of 20 boreholes totaling approximately 12 000m had been completed, with two deflections generally drilled per reef intersection. Of the 18 boreholes, there were nine probable Merensky Reef intersections, nine UG2 Reef intersections, two holes drilled into dolerite dykes and three holes which failed to intersect any reefs.
Exploration in the coming year should see the completion of the first phase of drilling which is aimed at estimating inferred resources on the Berg Project if possible (drilling up to approximately borehole BD30), and additional geophysical acquisition over new prospecting right areas.
